LASER TREATMENT OF FACIAL BLOOD VESSELS

The Palm Beach Esthetic Dermatology and Laser Center is home to one of the few Scleroplus lasers in the area. This laser uses a beam of light that is absorbed by blood vessels. It utilizes a cooling device that delivers a pulse of freezing gas to the skin milliseconds before the light beam hits it. This cooling device allows energy to be delivered to the unwanted vessels while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin.

What can be treated?
Vessels on the face and legs are treated by the laser. Stretch marks are also good candidates for treatment with the Scleroplus laser. The laser also works well on birthmarks such as port wine stains, hemangiomas and "stork bites". The small red bumps that almost everyone gets on their trunk ("cherry angiomas") are easily treated with the Scleroplus.

What do I look like after the treatment?
There is some bruising after the treatments. This may be covered with camouflage makeup. The cooling device minimizes the amount of bruising and is a significant advance over traditional machines.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments needed depends on the size, location, color and thickness of the lesion being treated. Usually treatment is completed in two or three sessions although leg veins may take more treatments.
