Burn Treatment

Treating burn scars poses a clinical challenge as these are some of the most severe in clinical medicine. Burn scars have often healed as a combination of atrophic, hypertrophic, keloidal or contractured scars. Innovations in laser technology has improved and our research has shown fractional lasers may have a significant role in the management of burn scars (See attached article - Waibel and Beer, JDD & Waibel and Beer JDD and ASLMS abstract presented 2009). Fractionated light can be focused to penetrate deeper than previous laser devices used for scars. Fractional ablative lasers have the ability to remove tissue and penetrate deep in the scarred tissues to help minimize serious burn scars.

The research on this new discovery is just beginning but as you can see from the before and after photos included on this page it is very encouraging.

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover this type of procedure and a consultation would be required to evaluate what the best treatment is for you.

Please call Dr. Beer and Dr. Waibel at 561-655-9055 to schedule your consultation.
