What is Perlane?
Perlane, like Restylane, is a dermal filler and is a long-lasting gel that, once injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle, lift and add volume and help diminish fine lines. Made of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid, it is a completely safe treatment. The hyaluronic acid in Perlane simply supplements the body's age-depleted hyaluronic acid to plump-up the lip or to raise the skin and 'fill in' the particular wrinkle being treated.

The difference between Restylane and Perlane is the size of the particle (with Perlane containing more hyaluronic acid). This means that Perlane does a better job of filling deep lines while Restylane is used in fine lines or in thin skinned people.

These products last for between six and nine months, although individuals will have varied results.

Perlane is an excellent treatment for wrinkle correction, lip enhancement, smile lines and deep folds.

Are there any Side Effects?
Restylane has minimal side effects. The most common is slight bruising, which is seen in about 20% of patients. The injection hurts more than collagen because collagen has anesthetic. Less common problems would include allergies, but this is very rare. Some patients experience an infection or a cold sore due to the injection of the needle. Additionally, there maybe a little swelling after the needle is injected, and resolves within a day or two.

What are the Differences between Restylane and Perlane?
Restylane is thinner and better for lips and fine lines. Perlane is thicker and good for sculpting e.g. cheek bones or deep lines such as laugh lines. Both Restylane and Perlane are the exact same molecule (hyaluronic acid) and made by Q-Med.

What is the Cost of Treatment?
The cost of treatment depends on the amount used and the specific area of the face. Costs range significantly throughout the country and major metropolitan areas such as New York City and Miami will cost a little more. A general ball park is between $500-$1,000 a shot.
